A Christmas update

It’s chriiiiistmas… Well actually it’s not yet but I hope you folks are all getting festive together? Right now I am sat pretty jealous off all you guys in England where it is cold and Christmassy. I would give anything to be home at Christmas. One of the hardest things about living away is the loss of your little family traditions and rituals which make the special occasions well special I guess. My mother has always been pretty OTT about Christmas and birthdays in the most fabulous and tasteful way possible. She has always been a pretty outstanding mother and person as she takes the time to do the special touches and make these days special for everyone. She is the lady that does the details which other people think so what about and it’s all these details which add up and make a house a home and a day a celebration.

I think that I will stop with the hero workshop of my mumma now and move onto this post. I started to get a little doomful about not going home and when I was chatting to cob about it he reminded me this is our 5th Christmas together ( time flies) and I realised how silly I was being. Whilst being at home ( England) with my family for Christmas will probably always be my number one choice I have my own little family here and it’s about time I tried to enjoy Christmas Day with us lot than wish I was somewhere else.

So, we have our tree which I love , cob took me shopping for it last time I was down about Xmas. I let him choose, it takes up half the lounge, but looks great. Maybe I will start to get a new decoration each year so we build up a nice collection, this year I want to make a greenery/silver ball arrangement which will wrap around the curtain rail in the lounge. We are not big drinkers but this year we planned to put aside an evening where we would make a roast dinner, have a cheeky drink and put up the tree. I lit some candles too so it looked festive and although we had to blast the sitcom it did feel Christmassy.

Next up we have put aside a day to do our Christmas shopping together. I know I am very lucky to have another half which will help me with these things so we decided to make a day of it and treat ourselves to lunch out.

Each year I am sent an advent calendar which is on the fridge and we open the doors. I also, have all my Christmas cards from friends and family up. Which leads to the next festive activity… At the grand age of 30 I am sending cards this year. Not a gazillion as my family used to but to friends, as I don’t really send presents, and also to the elderly relatives as they love it. A festive evening of tv by tree and candle light writing cards is on the CARDS!! ( oooh terrible dad joke!).

Friday was my work Christmas party so I spent ten day relaxing, having a bubble bath, and wrapping our presents. This made me feel quite festive also. I then had a great night, drank way too much (so many pro points!) danced the night away and woke up sick as a dog on Saturday. Saturday was spent resting, we had already dedicated this day to hangover which kind of made it more of an occasion as we could let our hair down and not worry about jobs to do the next day. Rather brilliantly I am still within my points allowance for the week! In the evening once we were rehydrated ( thank god for Gatorade) we curled up and watched the royle family Christmas special, it was proper festive.

So getting closer to the day I have decided on a few transitions. We are spending Christmas morning with cobs family but they all go to other people for lunch so we are alone. Although I do like orphans Christmas ( with other people without families here) in someways it makes me feel lonelier as they aren’t people I would normally see. I have decided to have drinks and mice pies at our house on Christmas Eve for family and friends. Christmas morning we will go for breakfast and to give presents and we have been invited for drinks and nibbles at some good friends of ours late aftnoon/evening. In the middle of the day I think we should do a Christmas shop (the week before) and buy some tasty treats we wouldn’t normally have and then listen to carols and cook a nice meal. Smoked salmon, prawns, roast, pigs in blankets all the trimmings… I even have dairy free and gluten free minced pies which cost me an arm and a leg but I am saving for that day. We can then watch Christmas tv, open our pressies and Skype the family before going for evening drinks at our friends. I think this should be a lovely day.

On Boxing Day we are heading to a friends for a day at the beach and to stay so we can all have a BBQ together.

I no longer feel sad at this Christmas, I am actually quite looking forward to it. I have made a stocking full of treats for the dog, got my presents for cob, got candy canes on my tree which we never had at home but I think they look great as chocolates would probably melt. I will wear a nice Christmas outfit and after watching the royle family want to try snowball drinks this Christmas instead of minced pies, has anyone had these?

what are your Christmas traditions? Any you can recommend?

Christmas catch up and a wedding update

Well it feels like it has been a while. I scheduled posts for you folks but we haven’t had a catch up for a while. Plenty of gossip from this end… Not all great.

First up the weight loss has continued. I would say I have now lost 21-22kg ( I haven’t weighed for a week or so) and I am happy with how it is tracking. I think I may be on track for my 30th.

Also we have out up this Christmas tree

Ours is decorated with some hand made glass robins which were a present last year and a selection of small glass baubles I got for $4 for a set and $2 for a set in the urban outfitters sale last year… Trendiest tree ever according to my brother!!!

It is my work Christmas party tonight so I have some festive nails

20121207-110123.jpg

Polish from OPI… Standard well wearing, good colour… I get them when they are on offer.

I have been so busy with work, I just finished 14 days straight, but have been given a great review for this year and have been learning always, my review was actually really personal and focused a lot on what I offer as a person in a team as well as my technical ability.. I take this as a huge complement.

The bad news is we have had to cancel the wedding due to visa issues. I had planned a surprise wedding in Vegas at the Harley Davidson chopper chapel for my other half and I with just the two mums as witnesses. We were following this up with a cruise to Mexico and then a trip home to celebrate. Sadly America is too slow with the visas, so we have had to rethink. I was devastated at first, not for the wedding, but more as I had planned what I thought was my finances ideal day. We have moved on now and are actually about to book a bigger wedding with 50 close friends and family… Details TBC but it is hilarious!

Speaking of romance I was shopping in Kmart last break and picked up a couple of girly books to get me through a hard swing…easy ready. Well can you imagine my surprise when it got a bit raunchy and turned out I was reading….

Haha mills and boon… What a joke.

how have you been? Do you read mills and boon?

A very budget Christmas….mark 2

So as the other half doesn’t read my blog I can post a few details of what I got for him to unwrap on Christmas Day Incase anyone else needs stocking filler ideas. I also, in my frenzied shopping state, may have accidentally bought the dog a cat ball! Bad maman.

So I set myself a budget of around $100 which sounds like a lot but doesn’t go too far in perth. I wanted to get lots of things for him to unwrap and a lot were the kind of things we would buy anyway but I got them now to bulk it out. I won’t say lots of the actually gifts Incase the sly old dog does check I here. If you are reading cob I love you and bought you novelty boxer shorts and some tampax that should have put him off just Incase!!!

Actually some of the stocking fillers I found included

Gold coins
A Christmas goblet for Christmas wine $1 Kmart
Candy canes
A crossword book
5 x $1 Christmas lotto scratch cards… This could be the gift which keeps in giving

The rest of the stuff was a few slightly bigger $20 gifts and a whole arrant of cheaper items which all go together as a package.. Cryptic huh?

I am pretty pleased with this, as I didn’t want to do a big gift as he had already had it I think I did well. I came in under $100 until I saw a toothbrush which plays lady gaga whilst you clean your teeth with a different song for the morning and evening.. Which he needed. Or more to the point I needed him to have!

what are your top bargain stocking filler tips?

Just call me

A very budget Christmas

Well howdy doody all, although I am not festive yet as I am at work I will be getting festive this break. I have 12 days off over Christmas and although, if I am honest, I do find Christmas tricky in a warmer climate I am determined to enjoy this.

To date I have been super spoiled as my mum really goes all out and is super talented at arts crafts and decorating. Side note if you ever want inspiration check out he blog at http://www.giftfrippery.co.uk. Anyway each year I have planned my presents for every meticulously, really thought about what they may want and gone home for Christmas. Each year, until I have my own children, I get a stocking and then we have breakfast, open gifts, play games, have dinner and chill by the fire as a family,

This year I am in Australia in my other families Christmas. This is a little tricky on a few accounts. Mainly because each of those family’s have another half of their family to see we all meeting up for Christmas breakfast leaving the rest of the day free for them to see the rest of their family… Fantastic except the rest of my family is in England! No my putty party is over I am throwing myself into a making new traditions of our own and having a very merry budget Christmas.

The presents for my family have already been sorted so I could send them home with my mum. So next break we are going to my works Christmas party, staying at the hotel with a group of friends in an apartment and then the next day the cob ( other half as I call him) are having our festive day. As we don’t have heaps of spare cash we like to have lots of little occasions and nice days such and this will be one of them. We are going into town to pick up presents for his family, we will have coffee together, maybe go for lunch and that evening we are planning to have a nice roast, a few drinks and put up our tree. I will probably also wrap presents whilst we watch an Xmas movie. Tradition no. 1. I can’t wait until we are shopping for our own little family.. One day!

We do have 2 weddings to go to which means more Christmas season parties so I am looking forward to that. I have planned to do a night of home made mince pies and iced mulled wine on Christmas Eve at our house for family and friends. I would love to decorate the house a little more for this. I am thinking some kind of wreath on the door and some extra decorations which I will make… Are you interested in seeing these?

Christmas Day will be the family breakfast. In Australia, thank goodness for us, due to the large amount of travellers they have orphans Christmas where you go and celebrate round a meal wit friends and friends of friends. We may end up doing this. Then we come home early evening and Skype in with my family. I definitely want to see them open my gifts it took me aaaages to choose them.

This year we are on a budget as I explained and I already gave cob money for his birthday and Xmas present. He had a work based amazing trip to Abu Dhabi and I wanted him to have money to make the most of every opportunity out there. I still want him to have things to open so I am going to get a selection of stocking filler type gifts and some hand made ones for him.

Some ideas I have-

Chilli jam
Pickled walnuts ( he liked these In England)
Pickled onion monster munch ( a few packets wrapped individually)
Some new guitar picks
A board game we can play
Some vouchers that I will go fishing with him, be designated driver etc for the year

I can’t think of anything else I need to pop to the shops to get some bits and should probably do that tomorrow whilst he’s at work.

Also these, from Pinterest

Would make a lovely home made gift with some packets of seeds in!

What budget Xmas tips do you have?

Christmas wish list

Honestly, I do not need much for christmas. I have most things I wish for and am pretty well spoiled by the other half. On the other hand there is nothing wrong with a bit of a lust list and there are, obviously, certain things I am lusting for.

1. Scented candles

http://www.jomalone.com.au

I can never bring myself to pay this much for a lovely scented candle but I do really love them. This makes them a treat item, as I only buy reduced candles ($10 or less), and the perfect no.1 for my lust list.

2. bath stuff

thebodyshop.com.au

Again, body scrub is quite pricey I like a proper scrub and not just a gel with scrub in. Body shop at nearly $30 a tub is more than I would spend on myself but I would happily wish for it!

After a good scrub I like body oil

3. Urban Decay Naked Pallett

Yep I still lust for this

http://www.luxx.com

4. A vintage rose gold locket

http://www.trocadero.com

Something like this, which I would wear on a longer length pendant chain. I love rose gold and as much as I would love one of these it has been on my list for over 2 years but I enjoy the hunt and wandering round markets as much, if not more, than I will enjoy the item when we find it.

I dont tend to like to put too much on my list as people choose so well for me and get me things I would never have even thought of.

What are you wishing for?
